When I was young, my parents and people around me never tell me that I must get Straight-A's during high school and a First Class Honours Degree when I go to university because they are mostly primary schools educated and they don't know anything about university degree. To them, in order to be a graduate of the university or college, I must be highly demanded and I will never poor because I'm going to have a bright future. In year 2020 and these days, you must be as good as scoring all 100% in all subjects in order for you to excel and having a very bright future. If you are not a Straight-A's student and a First Class Honours Degree graduate, then, never mind, just work harder and harder to receive a fruitful and comfortable life with your hard-earned money and also, encourage your children to do this by telling them this: "Read one time of your lecture notes once before you go to your class, then, after the class, try to read one more time of your lecture notes during the evening time. Repeat to read your lecture notes on the following day morning and repeat to read them again during the weekend. After one month, repeat all the lecture notes reading. Repeat a few time of our lecture notes reading before you attend your mid-term test and final semester examination. Good luck! Scoring Straight-A's and First Class Honours Degree are on the way. Ask your teachers or lecturers if you are not sure about any topics related to their subjects' teaching."
Of course, if your children can't score Straight-A's and a First Class Honours Degree not to worry too much because they are many universities who are accepting excellency in one or a few subjects only. Encourage them to do whatever they like to do such as if they like English, then, they must be able to excel it. If they like Art, then, they must be able to excel it. Let me share with you my life experience when I meet these people below:
1) Woman A - She only scored an A+ in a subject called "English" during her high school formal examination, i.e. SPM in Malaysia. Then, she managed to be enrolled to University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) after her A-Level or STPM to study a degree in English. She managed to score well, yet, her parents did not tell her that she must score a First Class Honours Degree, thus, she enjoyed all her undergraduate life just like what I did to mingle around inter-faculties to know many friends. She managed to get a Ph.D. and now, she is working hard to be a Professor in the university which she is working for in English Literature and an Academic Visitor in Harvard University for 3 month. Of course, you must tell our children that they all must be very active in co-curriculum activities. For those introvert children, not to worry too much, parents because your children must be able to excel something such as the ability to do research, excel in playing computer games (I know that new technology, Metaverse powered by Meta or formerly known as Facebook is going to pay your children if they are really good in computer games such as strategy games and many others.), tutoring or ability to teach and many others.
I have talked to many parents from western countries, they said in western world, a "B" score in any subject is good enough, a "C" score is not tooo bad too, just that their children must work extremely hard to get a decent life. "Don't give up, children if you are not a Straight-A's student or a First Class Honours Degree graduate, however, you must try to achieve them and I have told you the secret on how to score! Life is always wonderful as long as you are working on your passion and what you like to do in your life," said Hui-Shin Wong.
2) Man A - A SPM 3 A's student, a medical doctor now in 1Malaysia Mobile Clinic in Malaysia who has a dream to cure all sick and poor patients by traveling around sub-urban areas in Malaysia to carry out his duty daily. He scored A in Biology, Mathematics and English Language in his SPM. He scored Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Penggajian Am (General Studies) with 4 A's in his STPM examination which is equivalent to A-Level from the western world and a B in Physics.
3) Woman A - A SPM 10 B's student who had tried very hard to score Straight-A's, yet, she can't get it. She is a degree graduate and an excellent entrepreneur now in Malaysia.
To be continued. Meeting time! Remind me just in case I delay the writing of this article.
I'm Hui-Shin Wong, Wong Hui Shin or Shyan H. Wong.
